Description
Tourism Trends Insights™ – Minireport Series No. 004
Solarpunk and Tourism – A possible design key for sustainable experiences
Trend Level: 1 – Weak Signal
Solarpunk originated as a cultural and aesthetic movement envisioning regenerative futures where technology, nature, and communities coexist in harmony.
At present it is not a structured tourism phenomenon: it represents a weak signal with narrative and value potential, useful mainly for cultural monitoring and low-risk micro-experimentations.
This Minireport (English edition, October 2025) applies the Tourism Trends Insights™ methodology to realistically assess the opportunities and limitations of this theme: strong cultural and aesthetic coherence, but no market validation yet and a high risk of over-intellectualization if translated into commercial products.
Inside you will find:
- Positioning of the theme along the Seed–Trend–Mainstream path, with reasons for its classification as Level 1
- Analysis of the 7 Drivers (aesthetics, storytelling, tribes, values, formats, territorial fit, scalability) with a reality check on demand
- Signals and digital traces: hashtags and micro-communities (e.g. #solarpunkcities, The Solarpunk Scene) in comparative perspective
- Examples aligned with Solarpunk aesthetics/values and key lessons: Bosco Verticale, Gardens by the Bay, Earthship Community, purpose-driven operators
- Speculative applications for destinations, tour operators, hospitality and cross-sectoral areas, with guidelines for small-scale pilots
